Dan Brown's THE DA VINCI CODE - Fiction Presented As Fact

Although it is a novel, Brown claims in the preface and in interviews, that it is all true.

Brown writes: "All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate."

My sermon series exposes how the opposite is true. But we love to know secrets, and we are weary of cover-ups by powerful individuals and organizations, and so the timing of this book is strategic. It has already sold more than 4 million copies. People are fascinated by the stories of secret societies, secret codes in Da Vinci's art, and fascinating numbers. People are asking, "Could this be true?".

If it is, Christianity is a big lie. Brown's point is that the early Christians did not regard Jesus as God and neither did he, that he was married to Mary Magadelene who carried his baby in her womb, which certainly shows he was a mere mortal. But the Council of Nicea upgraded Jesus to divine status in 325 A.D. and degraded Mary from goddess to the status of a prostitute, rewriting the Bible to cover up what had been done. The book ends with the worship of Mary Magadelene.

My sermon series shows that this book is a clever mainstreaming of the occult and unserious scholarship. Almost nothing in this book is true except Paris and Louvre do exist! However, because of the limitations of time in a sermon, a full exposure of the facts was not possible. Therefore, there are links below to sites providing information that will be of interest to truth seekers. Read them and make up your own mind. Be equipped to dialogue with friends who are asking if this book could be true.

Several books are also recommended that provide factual information regarding the reliability of the Bible (that it has not been re-written and revised through the centuries), why Christians know Jesus is God, and what we can learn from the critics of early Christians. On the latter topic, my sermon of December 7 shows how the pagan critics of Christianity establish beyond a doubt that Christians in the first century worshipped Jesus as God and that the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. did not invent His deity. Dan Brown hopes you won't know that, and a lot of other things these sites expose.

  3. Lee Strobel, The Case For Christ.
  4. Lee Strobel, The Case For Faith.
  5. Robert Wilken, The Christians As the Romans Saw Them. (Indispensable reading for my point in the sermon about what the lst and 2 nd century critics of Christianity tell us Christians believed from the beginning. These intellectuals attacked Christians for saying Jesus was God and being willing to die for that; therefore, the Council of Nicea did not invent the deity of Jesus in 325 AD)
