Our Statement of Faith

What We Believe

We believe that Jesus is God who is the Creator of the universe, who humbled Himself to the Father's will and came down from heaven to seek and to save us. (John 3:16; I Corinthians 15:1-8; Luke 19:10; Philippians 2:5-11)

We believe Jesus came not to condemn us but to salvage our lives from sin, which is the Bible's technical word for our foolish self-deification and rebellion against God's authority, and our destructive and self-abusive behavior. Jesus came from the Father to reconcile us to God through His death on the Cross, to give us eternal life and to set us free from our sin nature. (Romans 1:21-32; John 8:34; Luke 4:18-19)

We believe that every person is like the moon -- we have a dark side, which the Bible calls our sin nature. We are a "walking civil war" between our best self and our worst self, and this dark side, which is the source of most of the pain and problems in this world, can only be conquered and transformed by surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus and nurturing a personal relationship with Him. (Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17)

We believe that relief from our guilt is only found in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ who chose to die for our sins on the Cross and we believe that there is no guilt that is unforgivable if we will humbly confess it to Him and repent. (Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38)

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and completely trustworthy -- a lamp unto our feet -- and the final authority in all matters of faith and behavior for followers of Jesus. (2 timothy 3:16; Psalm 119:105)

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is God and who indwells every believer -- teaching, convicting, comforting, and empowering us with supernatural power. The Bible commands us to nurture and be filled with the Holy Spirit through obedience to the Bible and His promptings, by prayer and a devotional life and warns us that He can be quenched in our life by rebellious sin, particularly divisive behavior in relationships. (John 16:5-15; Acts 1:7-8, 1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19; Eph 4:29-32;5:18)

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ on earth, that it exists to evangelize the lost and to mature the saved, and that every believer is called to be a functioning part of the Body by using their time, talent and gifts to advance the agendas of Jesus on earth. (Eph 4:1-16)

Weekly worship with the assembled Body of Christ on Sunday, the day Jesus rose from the dead, is a commandment of God because it glorifies Him, and when it is heart-felt and Spirit-filled, it is contagious to unbelievers and compelling regarding the claim that Jesus has risen from the dead and is alive and ready to infuse us with His presence. (Acts 2:14-47; Exodus 20:8-11)

We believe that everyone will one day stand before Jesus and give an account of their life, and that our only hope of salvation is not our good works but a personal relationship with Him that trusts His substitutionary death on the Cross for us. (Heb 9:12; John 14:6)

We believe that Jesus rose from the dead and reigns in Heaven today. He will one Day return to defeat evil finally and for good, and on that Day, every knee will bow and acknowledge Him as the only Lord; and He will separate believers from the rebellious, the sheep from the goats for eternity. Those who have refused Jesus as Savior and Lord will be given their wish, which is a place far away from Him called Hell; those who have surrendered to His loving Lordship will be given their heart's desire which is Heaven, His Kingdom, where we will live eternally in His presence serving Him. (Matthew 25:31-33; Revelation 19:16-21 and 20:11-15).
Our Purpose

Jesus said that his purpose was this: “I came to seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) FPC’s purpose is the same as Jesus’. We believe that you change our country one person at a time. You heal a family one person at a time. You transform schools one child at a time.

We are therefore a seeker-sensitive church. We work hard at being a grace-filled and safe place for seekers to investigate Christianity. Our worship services are designed to feed believers but in a manner that is accessible to the rookie and user-friendly. Of our new members, 64% have become Christians at FPC. If you are seeking answers to life’s questions, you are in good company here.

Our programs are designed for spiritual and emotional growth. They are practical. Click on the various programs and you will find an amazing breadth of programs for all ages.

We are not a typical Presbyterian church. We are part of the “Confessing Church” movement within our denomination which is committed to the inerrancy of the Bible and Jesus as the only Savior and Lord. We believe the greatest social action in the world is introducing someone to a personal relationship to Jesus. Why? Because Jesus transforms us into the person we were always meant to be!

You are invited to come to worship or to any of our ministries, and benefit with us from the practical preaching and teaching. You can get a flavor of our style from our radio ministry on KKMC (880 AM) weekdays at 6:30 A.M. and 5:30 P.M., or Sundays at 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
